Cultural activities

And the pleasures of winter don’t necessarily just involve sports!
The snow also makes Auvergne’s cultural landmarks look beautiful, so why not pay a visit to some of these too? You’ll come across amazing architecture, glimpses into the past as well as how life goes on in the region as you take a look around the timelessness of Auvergne.

Spirit of the Belle Époque

People have been coming to Auvergne from elsewhere for a long time. Since the 19th century it has been drawing people wanting to take its waters from all over France and the rest of the world. These people were the first tourists! And the atmosphere from this era continues to be felt in the towns of Mont-Dore and La Bourboule. These are real must-sees during your visit; just walking through the streets will take you back to the Belle Époque. You’re then sure to want to have a look at the thermal baths, either to find out about their history or perhaps to enjoy a wonderful relaxation session there.

Peasant life of yesteryear
And you'll find still more surprises when you visit the region's various typical villages, every one of which, in its own particular style, represents Auvergne at its simplest and most authentic. In Laveisière, Cantal, there are the troglodyte homes, while in Murat, you'll be able to walk around the medieval city there. In the Massif du Sancy, Besse Saint Anastaise is a medieval and Renaissance gem, and if it's roofs made from basalt and lauze you're after, then Le Mezenc is the place for you. Extraordinary places to visit!

People of all ages will love the Maison de la Toinette and the Grange de Julien in Murat le Quaire, the Ferme de BoinchouxFerme des frères Perrel in Moudeyres, Mezenc, with its thatched roof.

This is just a selection of ideas for you when you come and unlock the secrets of Auvergne. Don’t forget to add them to your list of things-to-do during your holiday!
