Roi de l'Oiseau Renaissance Festival

(the Bird King Festival)

Le Puy-en-Velay

13-17 September 2017

Step back in time…

Every year, on the third weekend of September, this popular festival takes the city of Le Puy-en-Velay back to its Renaissance past. The local bird-shooting and archery tradition will catapult you straight back to 1524! In those times, Francis I and his court were thriving, the Renaissance was at its peak and the city of Le Puy prepared to host the crowds who came to attend the crowning of the new King of Birds, the finest of all archers…

A festival for all ages!
A festival for all ages!

Nearly five centuries later, the city of Le Puy-en-Velay still offers its beautiful setting to a breathtaking journey into the past… Scenes of daily life, merchants or military camps, shows, dance evenings, entertainers, musicians, archery competitions, parades in costume and mock skirmishes and ambushes all around the town…

All the wonders of a medieval city at the time of Francis I

• Over 6,000 people in costume

• Artists from all over Europe
• A strong focus on authenticity

• The 16th Century in all its glory
