Around France's highest volcano, the Puy de Sancy (1,886 m or 6,187 ft), we find the 11 towns of the Massif de Sancy, situated in the heart of the Auvergne. You'll find a variety of activities, in both winter and summertime. The choice is certainly an impressive one including nature, sport, culture or leisure activities, far from the madding crowds, where your family can relax and have fun.
Not only is the Sancy area located at the very heart and peak of the Auvergne region but it also offers visitors total freedom to pursue their interests… because here, everything is possible.
You'll enjoy summer like never before should you choose the Massif du Sancy. Pure, volcanic water and crater lakes are to be found everywhere in the area (Chambon, Guéry, Servières), and some of these offer great opportunities for bathing in an outstandingly beautiful natural setting.
Set off as a family to explore the 670 km (416 miles) of marked out hiking trails…to the top of the Puy de Sancy, around the lakes or across the Chaudefour valley nature reserve.
The Sancy area is also a leading location for spa towns and spa resorts. The volcanic waters of Sancy are of a rare quality. The spa facilities at La Bourboule, a town of the Belle Epoque covered by the "Famille Plus Montagne" (Family + Mountain) label and the neo-Byzantine Mont-Dore spa centres are havens of peace where you can really unwind in a relaxing setting!
So what takes your fancy? The Peaks Trail? A walk up the Puy de Sancy? Or an afternoon discovering cultural heritage?
Perhaps you’d prefer a holiday which includes a genuine training course on a farm open to the public in the traditional farming villages of Egliseneuve d'Entraigues or Saint-Diéry?
Here in the Auvergne, wintertime is an explosion of vitality and dynamism in an impressive natural setting.
All winter sports are available here, with well-equipped resorts so you can enjoy snow sports at their best, in addition to easily accessible and well laid out slopes (with no fewer than 320 snow cannons operating in the ski area). Some slopes are lit up at night, while others are designed to accommodate emerging snow sports or our younger visitors, with fully secure sledding slopes.
For those who enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or dogsledding the vast, well preserved Espace Nordique du Sancy winter sports area is open to you. Besse/Super-Besse, Le Mont-Dore and Chastreix are all family resorts. Super Besse and Le Mont Dore have been awarded the "Famille Plus Montagne" (Family + Mountain) label for their hospitality and reception services, their atmosphere, the festive aspect of their activities and of course their safety features.
