Salers, a relaxing village in a well-preserved natural setting.
A unique site dating from the 16th century, Salers presents visitors with a distinctive setting. All around the Grand Place (main square), the lava stone houses feature attractive turrets, pepper box roofs, mullion windows and carved, studded doors, etc.
Its church has retained a remarkable period Romanesque porch and its nave houses a "mise au tombeau" (entombing scene) and Aubusson tapestries.
The Esplanade de Barrouze provides this not-to-be-missed village with an excellent view over the Cantal hills and valleys of luxurious vegetation.
Salers is today officially listed as a Site Remarquable du Goût (a site of exceptional culinary taste) for its PDO cheese and quality labelled Salers breed meat.
